Issue. May New York lawyer L appear in a California court for a specific case after obtaining pro hac vice admission?
Rule. Under MR 5.5, a lawyer admitted in one jurisdiction may temporarily practice in another for a specific matter, including with pro hac vice admission.
Application (model). L is admitted in New York and obtained pro hac vice admission for a specific California case. Because MR 5.5 permits temporary practice with pro hac vice admission, the fact that L is properly admitted pro hac vice for the specific California case means L's practice is authorized.
