Honorary trusts for non-charitable, non-human purposes (such as pet care or monument maintenance) are generally invalid under traditional doctrine, but modern statutes (UPC §2-907) authorize pet trusts with specified durations.

Rule. Under modern statutes such as UPC §2-907, pet trusts are valid for the animal's lifetime or a specified period.
